CAUTION! ASPARTAME >> THE TRUTH BEHIND ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS
Nutrition can be a difficult topic to grasp. Every year there seems to be a new fad diet sweeping the world that claims to be ‘the best’. We shop in supermarkets, a minefield of processed, refined and highly packaged foods. How are we, the consumers, supposed to dodge clever packaging, E number jargon and marketing campaigns and decide for ourselves what is really healthy for us? Yes, even those, which claim to be healthy because they are ‘light’ or ‘sugar free’ have hidden dangers.
Unfortunately, the biggest myth of them all is ‘diet drinks’ are NOT diet products! They are chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing products that actually cause you to crave carbohydrates and therefore far more likely to cause you to GAIN weight! In fact, research has shown that once patients stopped consuming aspartame-containing products, patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period with no significant increase in exercise.
Food packaged as being ‘light’ or ‘sugar free’ contains an artificial sweetener called ASPARTAME, a toxic substance that is proven to cause brain damage by leaving traces of Methanol in the blood. Aspartame is labelled as an ‘E number’ in the ingredients list on packaging β it uses the numbers E951 and E950 and has recently changed its name to ‘aminosweet’.
The top five Aspartame containing foods include: Diet soda/fizzy drinks, table sweeteners (nutra sweet), chewing gum, yoghurts, and squash/syrup/cordials. For a full list of Aspartame containing foods, click here.
Aspartame is made up of three toxic ingredients, methanol, phenylalanine and aspartic acid, the latter two being amino acid isolates. Methanol, also known as a wood alcohol, converts into formaldehyde within the body, which is known to be a serious neurotoxin and carcinogen. According to the EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), Methanol is considered a cumulative poison, meaning carcinogens (cancer promoting substances) accumulate in the body (predominantly the fat cells of the hips and thigh areas) with very little being excreted each time they are consumed.
I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: In simple terms, when heat treated above 30Β°C the wood alcohol in aspartame is converted into formaldehyde (an absolute toxin, primarily used to preserve tissue specimens) and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis.
Metabolic acidosis has many symptoms. There are 92 FDA agreed symptoms from aspartame consumption of which the top five include: Headache, Dizziness or Problems with Balance, Change in Mood Quality or Level, Vomiting and Nausea, Abdominal Pain and Cramps.
Aspartame is so destructive because it passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, Seizures, Depression, Manic depression, Panic attacks, Uncontrollable anger and rage.
Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. Case studies whose physicians, believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance.
Many of these symptoms caused from aspartame consumption are also common symptoms of fibromyalgia, systemic lupus and multiple sclerosis, as methanol toxicity mimics fibromyalgia and other conditions such as multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, meaning many patients diagnosed with these conditions may actually be suffering from aspartame poisoning and could completely reverse their symptoms by removing all aspartame containing products from their diets.
Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners. Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in their behaviour when these chemicals have been removed from their diet.
Aspartame can also cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy.
So, who wants a diet coke? Personally, if I am going to consume something sweet, I would choose the real sugar every time!
